Exploring our options

Initially drawn to minimal music by groundbreaking artist Steve Reich, and later confirmed by a Sven Väth show, Ananda knew he had found his true passion – electronic music.

Hailing from Cologne, Germany, Gabriel Ananda has had over 20 releases on a variety of labels, including his own, Karmarouge Records.

Whether mixing beats in the club, or at the studio, Ananda produces a definitive sound – blending techno, house, dub and his own acoustic elements.

Download this 70min set and judge for yourself, I don’t think we have seen the last of Germany’s Gabriel just yet.

Coming soon....

Infected Mushroom, number nine on DJ mag's top 100, is playing at this years Bluesfest in Ottawa, Canada on Sunday, July 6 at 6:15 pm on the Bank of America Stage. I'm still in search of a set or two of theirs to put up here, but for now enjoy this track I found on YouTube, which is pretty insane.

The mvp

Today I've got a little treat for you, and he goes by the name Marco V.

Born Marco Verkuijlen in North Brebant, Netherlands, Marco V has been an influential contributor to the electronic dance music genre. His energetic and crowd-pleasing style has earned Marco V the #20 spot on DJ mag’s Top 100 poll.

His first resident position was with Danssalon in Eindhoven, Netherlands; after a few years of perfecting his approach Marco V turned towards producing tracks.

In 2000, Marco V headlined Innercity in Amsterdam and broke into the international electronic dance music scene. Jumping on the opportunity to mix the Innercity CD, Marco V became a household name for any electro-dance fan. As a producer, tracks like “Godd” and “Simulated” stormed the clubs. To date Marco V has produced a slew of albums: from his latest Combi:Nations III, to producing compilation albums for clubs like the Guvernment in Toronto, Canada and GateCrasher in the UK.

A sound that has developed over the years, Marco V is not one to be categorized. His style comes across as a fusion of electro-house, progressive house and progressive trance.

Marco V, truly an international DJ, will travel from Netherlands to Lebanon, UK and Czech Republic over the next week alone.

Now, crank the speakers and enjoy the mix.

What I consider exercise

More Sebastien-B, this is episode #67 from his “House From Ibiza” podcast.

This set made me want to start a dance party in my office.

Definitely some big, bangin' house beats – any dancer will appreciate.
I need to go out this weekend.

It was like Christmas.

Bearing in mind that sometimes, just sometimes, prayers are answered over night, I present you with Sander van Doorn’s May 2008 Identity Mix.

Now for a little history on Sander himself…

Born Sander Ketelaars, this 29-year-old Dutch treat is making a huge name for himself in the electronic dance music scene.

On March 3, 2008 van Doorn released his first album, “Supernaturalistic,” a 13-track release that is sure to appease any dance music fan. Composed of elements of trance, minimal, house and techno, van Doorn executes this diverse mix flawlessly with scrupulous attention given to each track.

Leading up to this release, the now international DJ has been collecting his accomplishments one after another.

In March 2008, van Doorn won “Best Breakthrough DJ” at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami during the infamous Miami Winter Music Conference.

In 2006 van Doorn debuted in DJ Mag’s esteemed Top 100 DJ poll at number 32, and by 2007 he managed to snag the number 15 spot with no sign of slowing down. Helping him grab these impressive slots was van Doorn’s first big residencies: Judgment Sunday in Ibiza and the Gallery in London. In June of 2006 van Doorn recorded an essential mix for BBC Radio One, and won “Best New Producer” at the Trance Awards.

Sander van Doorn, we love you, keep the music coming. And do stop by Heaven again sometime… totally regret missing your set.
